One of our most innovative rehabilitative programs is the Traffic Police Assistant Programme. This programme, initiated by ECHO in cooperation with the Department of Police, aims at metamorphosing juvenile delinquents and neglected children, into responsible members of society. ECHO has trained more than 375 TPAs since the launch of the programme in 2002. Children in the age group of 16 to 20 years are given intensive orientation and training in traffic rules and regulations, basic information about the city, first aid and community dynamics.
As Traffic Police Assistants, the inmates gain dignity, respect and self-worth next to financial independence. Previously law breakers are reformed into law enforcers.
January 26th, 2006, was a milestone in the history of the TPAP. Appreciating the work done by the TPA boys, the Government of Karnataka invited them to participate in the Republic Day’s Parade in Bangalore. This was an exalted recognition to our boys. Another special event in our TPAP was the Capping Ceremony of the 7th batch of TPAs. For the first time in history the batch also included 12 girls from the Children’s Home, to be trained as TPAs
